[03:31.38](LiMeng and Mr.Davis are waiting outside)

[03:37.26]LiMeng:That was a mean dog.

[03:41.81]If the owner knew that,I don't think he or she would keep a dog like that.

[03:48.26]Mr.Davis:A dog like that shouldn't run wild.

[03:52.62]6.Listen,read and answer the following questions in pairs.

[04:00.80]Keeping a pet

[04:04.45]It was a sunny day.John and his mother went to a free market.

[04:11.40]After looking at several lanes of goods, they came to a pet's counter,

[04:18.17]on which there were many beautiful pets.

[04:22.71]There were puppies,kittens,birds,fish,turtles,bunnies,and parrots.

[04:31.26]Looking at the adorable pets,

[04:35.62]John could not help asking his mum to buy a puppy for him.

[04:41.18]Mum thought for a while and then asked John:

[04:45.73]"Are you prepared to keep a puppy?""Yes."

[04:51.60]"Do you want to feed the puppy and clean his"room"every day?""Yes."

[04:58.74]"In that case,I can buy one for you.

[05:03.57]But remember keeping a pet involves many responsibilities."

[05:10.41]"What are the responsibilities?"

[05:14.36]"You need to feed the puppy twice a day and walk it at least once a day.

[05:21.52]You can't let your dog sit on his tail all day.

[05:26.37]You should make sure he exercises daily

[05:30.95]and bring him outside four or five times to poop or pee.

[05:36.69]You have to give him a bath once every month."

[05:41.73]"That's fun.I'd love giving a bath to this little puppy

[05:47.48]and I can take him outside for a walk.I can..."

[05:52.76]"OK,in that case, you can choose one."

[05:57.62]John quickly picked a brownish puppy with a pair of cute eyes.

[06:03.96]In John's arms, the little puppy seemed to be very happy.

[06:09.61]He licked John's face.

[06:13.05]At that very moment,Mum realized that John had a new friend

[06:19.53]and she also knew that John was going to face many difficulties.

[06:25.18]But,as a mum,she was very pleased

[06:29.62]that her son wanted to take on some responsibilities.

[06:34.87]She was pretty sure that her son would learn quite a lot

[06:39.91]from keeping this little puppy.

[06:43.54]8.Listen,read and act.

[06:49.57]Scene 3

[07:00.96]LiMeng:I wonder if we should report the dog attack to the city council.

[07:06.53]Mr.Davis:Good idea

[07:09.56]The Domestic Animals Act 1994 has all the rules for dangerous dogs.

[07:16.40]LiMeng:OK,I'll make the call. But just before I do that,

[07:21.65]is there anything I should know so I can tell them everything I saw?

[07:27.09]Mr.Davis:Let's see.Did the dog wear a collar?

[07:31.81]Xiaohong:A collar?What's that?

[07:35.89]Mr.Davis:Well,the owner of a dangerous dog has to put a collar with red

[07:41.04]and yellow stripes around its neck so people will know it's dangerous.

[07:46.89]This dog must weigh around 30 kilos

[07:51.64]so the collar has to be 40 mm(millmetres)wide.
