“十三五”规划纲要草案提出，将深空探测及空间飞行器在轨服务与维护系统作为“科技创新2030—重大项目”六个重大科技项目之一。当前，中国载人航天工程全面迈进“空间站时代”。

空间站未来将成为我国开展空间科学研究的主要平台，其在科学技术方面有三个目标：一是掌握大型空间设施的建造和运营技术，达到或接近国际空间站水平，并能利用当代的技术成果，发挥后发优势实现超越。二是掌握航天员经常在轨飞行的生活和健康保障技术。在空间站建设和应用中，人是核心因素。只有使航天员能健康地生活，才能保障其高效地工作。三是建设国家太空实验室，为科学家提供高水平科学研究平台，以期能达到在科学方面若干领域实现重大突破的目标。
