中共中央办公厅印发了《关于做好“光荣在党50年”纪念章颁发工作的通知》指出，党中央决定，2021年首次颁发“光荣在党50年”纪念章。
The Communist Party of China (CPC) will honor its members bearing five decades of Party membership with memorial medals for the first time this year, according to a circular issued by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.

颁发“光荣在党50年”纪念章是中国共产党成立100周年庆祝活动的重要组成部分，对于增强党员的荣誉感、归属感、使命感，汇聚全党为实现“十四五”规划和2035年远景目标持续奋斗的磅礴力量，具有十分重要的意义。
“光荣在党50年”纪念章首次颁发对象为健在的截至2021年7月1日党龄达到50周年、一贯表现良好的党员。
“光荣在党50年”纪念章首次颁发以后，将作为一项经常性工作，一般每年“七一”集中颁发一次。
