B:That's bad!I've been trying to call him for the last ten minutes ,but your line has been busy.Will he be back soon?

A:I'm afraid not.He's gone for the rest of the day.

B:Is there anywhere I can reach him?

A:I don't believe so.He's going out of town on business.May I take a message?

B:I have a business appointment with him for tomorrow morning at ten o'clock, but I'm afraid I can't make it.

A:Would you care to make another appointment?

B:Unfortunately,I'm leaving town rather unexpectedly, and I may be gone for several days.

A:I see.I can tell Mr.Thomas that you phoned.

B:Thank you.

A:Bye-bye.

电话的好处多

Phones provide simple,economical,but very efficient means to do a lot of things. For example, if you want to make an appointment with somebody,you would normally call up his office and arrange a time either with him or through his secretary.If you want to go to the movies,you call to see what's playing,ask for the time schedule,and check the prices.If you want to buy something, you would call ahead to make sure the store has what you need, and at a good price.If you want to travel,you had better call to find out schedules,prices,ticket information,and reservations.

A:I really can't say how long she'll be.

B:Can you tell her I'm waiting to speak to her?

A:Yes,sir.I'll ring her on an inside line if you like.

电话的烦恼

I had worked hard all day at the office,and I was looking forward to a relaxing evening at home.

Just as I walked in the door,the telephone began to ring.I dashed to answer the phone and found that the caller was a man trying to sell something.I refused and hung up the phone.

As I went upstairs to see whether the children had finished their homework,the telephone rang again.I answered it and knew my husband wouldn't be home for dinner.

Then I went back downstairs with the children to have dinner.During dinner,the phone rang twice.Without even answering it,I called to my children,"Get ready,we're all going to a movie."

"Great!But why?"

"Is seems that's the only way we can get away from this telephone."
