Our character, basically, is a composite of our habits. “Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny,” the maxim goes.

从根本上来讲，我们的个性是塑成习惯的成分之一。有一句箴言讲到：“播下一个想法，收获一个行动;播下一个行动，收获一个习惯;播下一个习惯，收获一个性格;播下一个性格，收获一份命运。”

Habits are powerful factors in our lives. Because they are consistent, often unconscious patterns, they constantly, daily, express our character and produce our effectiveness or ineffectiveness.

习惯是我们生活中有力的因素。因为习惯的持续性，人们常常不能意识到它们。于是，每一天，我们的习惯总在彰显着我们的性格，我们是否有效率也源自习惯。

As Horace Mann, the great educator, once said, “Habits are like a cable. We weave a strand of it everyday and soon it cannot be broken.” I personally do not agree with the last part of his expression. I know habits can be learned and unlearned. But I also know it isn't a quick fix. It involves a process and a tremendous commitment.

正如伟大的教育学家霍瑞斯·曼曾经说的那样：“习惯犹如一根缆绳。我们每日为其编织一股，不久它便不容易断裂。”我个人不认同他最后一段的表达。我知晓有些习惯是后天习得的，而有些则是不学就有的。可我也明白习惯无法速成，它是一段涉及郑重承诺的过程。

You cannot find or will you ever find gold on the surface. It has to be discovered and has to be found deep inside the Earth's ground. And it takes years to find the gold and this is why it is so valuable; Not everyone has it.

在地面永远都不可能找到黄金。黄金是需要发掘的，而且只能在地底深处找到。这个过程很费时间，所以黄金才那么珍贵，不是每个人都能够拥有。

Character is the same. You will not find character on the surface. You can only find character deep inside your soul. And your character is only discovered when there is chaos. Your character is never tested when things are going your way.

品质也是如此。你无法在表面找到你的品质，而只能在灵魂深处找到。只有混乱发生的时候你才会发现它，只有在事情不顺心的时候你的品质才会得到考验。

You have to dig deep inside of you to find the character and when you do that you will discover the true gold.

You are consistently remembered on how you treat others. Are you kind or unkind? Do you have manners? Are you respectful? These are the questions we ask each other.

你对待他人的方式往往会被别人记在心里。你待人和善吗?你大方得体吗?你尊重别人吗?我们总会互相问这样的问题。

This is why your character is your gold mine. You must guard your character just like you would guard your gold. Do not let anyone take it or destroy it.

这就是为什么说你的品质是你的金矿。你一定要守护你的品质，就像你会守护自己的黄金一样。不要让别人拿走它或破坏它。

People will test you in life and events in life will shake you. However, when this happens please look deep inside and find your character because your character will help you succeed any event.

在生活中，有的人会考验你，有的事情会使你动摇。但是，当这些出现的时候，请看看自己的内心深处，寻找你的品质，因为你的品质能帮助你应对一切。

Your character is your gold.

你的品质就是你的黄金。
