Payment
Mariah: Well, we've settled the question of price, quality and quantity. Now what about the terms of payment ?
Austin: We accept payment by irrevocable letter of credit payable against shipping documents, prompt cash and spot cash. If it's OK with you, we would like payment prior to delivery, since this is your first order.
Mariah: I understand why you would like it that way, but we demand payment after delivery, because these goods are very expensive.
Austin: I know they are very expensive, but why does that mean you should get arrears before delivery?
Mariah: It's a large order. If we give an advance payment , we will have money trouble, because it will take several months to sell the goods and make a profit .
Austin: I understand, but we must pay to make the goods, and then must wait several months for you to pay, we will have money trouble, too.
Mariah: Let's make concession . We will pay in installments , with the first payment in half a month after delivery, then once a month after that.

玛利亚: 好吧,既然价格、质量和数量问题都已谈妥,现在来谈谈付款方式怎么样?
奥斯汀: 我们只接受不可撤消的、凭装运单据付款的信用证,即时付款和即期付款。如果可以的话,我们希望在交货前收款,因为是贵公司第一次订货。
玛利亚: 我明白你们希望这样做的原因。但是我们要求交货后再付款。因为这批货并不便宜。
奥斯汀: 我知道很贵。但为什么这样你们就要在交货后才付款呢?
玛利亚: 因为这批货为数不小。如果我们预先付款的话,会有财务困难,而且卖这些货需要三四个月才能开始获利。
奥斯汀: 我了解,可我们先花钱生产产品,又得等到几个月才能拿到货款,那我们也会有财务困难。
玛利亚: 我们都让一下步。我们就分期付款!交货后半个月付首期款,以后则每个月付一次。
