My friend, Herbert, has always been fat, butthings got so bad recently that he decided to goon a diet. He began his diet a week ago. First ofall, he wrote out a long list of all the foodswhich were forbidden. The list included most ofthe things Herbert loves: butter, potatoes, rice,beer, milk, chocolate, and sweets. Yesterday I paidhim a visit. I rang the bell and was not surprised tosee that Herbert was still as fat as ever. He led meinto his room and hurriedly hid a large parcel underhis desk. It was obvious that he was very embarrassed. When I asked him what he wasdoing, he smiled guiltily and then put the parcel on the desk. He explained that his diet was sostrict that he had to reward himself occasionally. Then he showed me the contents of theparcel. It contained five large bars of chocolate and three bags of sweets!

语言点1 本句包含so... that...弓丨导的结果状语从句。
语言点2 has always been fat是现在完成时，表不休从过去到现在一直很胖。
语言点3 go on a diet = be on a diet节食，减肥

他是一星期前开始节食的。
语言点 表达过去的时间状语a week ago对应过去式began。

首先，他列了一张长长的单子，上面列了所有禁吃的食物。
