“bring someone to book”可不是“带某人到书里”

​book(书)对大家来说太熟悉了,

但是在日常口语和习语中,

book往往不能当书来理解,

比如今天要和大家一起学习的这几个例子。

bring someone to book

这个习语中的book并不是我们常说的书,而是指law book,因此这个习语的意思不是“带某人到书里”或“带某人去登记”,(book作动词时可以表示预订、登记),正确的意思是:给某人应有的惩罚。

例句:

Police should be asked to investigate so that the guilty can be brought to book soon.

应该请警察来调查,尽快将罪犯绳之以法。
