Cut就是切东西的切。cut and dried里的dried 是从动词to dry变形而来，也就是动词to dry的过去式，意思是已经干了。Cut and dried这个习惯用语的含义实际上跟cut 和 dry都没有什么关系。Cut and dried的意思是：老一套，或者是人们所预料的，或者是根据以往的老做法来行事。任何事情要是被说成cut and dried，那就很可能是没有什么吸引人的地方，因为缺乏新鲜内容。
