外国人表达“叫板”居然用“play chicken”，有意思

人家说一句你总是想着各种方式去压制对方，

你有能耐而我表现得更有能耐的这样一种行为

生活中我们会用“叫板”这个词，

那你知道用英文该怎么表达“叫板”吗?

跟“叫”啊，“喊”啊可没什么关系，

英语中用到了这样一种说法

在英语中的意思是

to play dangerous games in order to discover who is the bravest

玩危险的游戏以比试胆量

咋玩鸡就能就能看出来谁更有本事吗?

It comes from mathematical game theory. "Chicken" in this usage means coward (we call people who are cowards "chickens" because chickens run away when people approach).

它来自数学博弈论。Chicken在这种用法中指的是懦夫(我们把胆小的人称为chicken，因为人一靠近鸡，鸡就会跑开)。

A game of chicken is any contest with two players where neither one wants to "back down" or let the other win, even though not backing down can be very dangerous.

懦夫游戏指的是在两名玩家之间进行的一个比赛，比赛中不管是哪一方都不愿意让步，一旦让步对方就会获胜，尽管不让步可能会非常危险。

The classic game of chicken takes place when two people drive cars at very high speeds directly towards each other.

经典的懦夫游戏就是两个人以非常快的速度向对方方向开车的形式进行的。

Obviously, if neither one turns away, there will be a big crash and both will be harmed. The person that turns first is the chicken.

显然，如果双方都没有转向，就会发生大碰撞，双方都将受到伤害。而先转弯的人是鸡(懦夫)。

这个游戏中的玩家双方都是本着绝不让步去的

为的就是显示自己比对方更有胆量

从而取得胜利

所以现在就会出现这样一种用法，

当你不服某人的时候

你就会和某人play chicken

以显示自己很厉害

例：

Don't play chicken with him, you'll end up totalling your car.

别跟他叫板，要不然你最后会毁掉你的车。

When you drive you'd better not play chicken with bigger cars.

当你开车的时候最好别和大车去叫板!
