“我在厕所”千万不要说成“I'm in the toilet!” 太尴尬了！

有一天，

当秘书在上厕所时，

老板打来了电话，

“Where are you?”

​秘书慌忙之中，答道：

“I'm in the toilet!”

老板惊呼

“What are you doing in the toilet?!”

你在马桶里干什么?!

Chinglish害死人啊!

明明想说自己“在洗手间”，

结果被人理解成了“在马桶里”。

所以正确的表达应该是：

I'm in the washroom/ bathroom.

我们其实是不会在马桶里的，

但我们会蹲厕所

这里的“蹲”，

其实换一种说法也可以说成是坐在马桶上

也就是

sit on toilet

I'm sitting on the toilet.

接下来再来介绍几个“厕所”的英文

不同情况会使用不同的词来表示“厕所”

英国人常用toilet表示洗手间，

但美国和加拿大则认为这么说不太礼貌

restroom – in the US, in a public place 在美国的公共场所

washroom – in Canada, in a public place 加拿大的公共场合

ladies’ room or men’s room – in a public place 公共场所

bathroom – in someone’s house 在某人的房子里

例：

It's going to be a long drive, kids, so if you want to go to the toilet, do so now.

孩子们，我们要开始长途旅行，所以如果要上厕所现在就去。

Don't forget to flush the toilet.

别忘了冲马桶。

powder room: a small bathroom with only a toilet and a sink (but with no bathtub or shower) 一个只有马桶和水槽(但没有浴缸和淋浴)的小卫生间

en suite: a full bathroom connected to a room 有独立卫生间的房间

bathroom: a room with a toilet, a sink, and a bathtub and/or a shower, but not connected to a room 一间有厕所、水槽、浴缸和淋浴的房间，但不是在房间内(是另一个单独的房间)
