老外说count to ten，不是让你“数到十”，搞错就尴尬了

count to ten字面意思是“数到十”，

不过当你很生气的时候，

老外说“count to ten”，是希望你：

​花点时间冷静下来

(类似于我们常说的“深呼吸，冷静一下”)

下面是这个俚语的英文解释：

To take a moment to calm down, especially when angry, before doing anything rash or hasty. Used as an imperative, it can but doesn't necessarily mean to literally count to the number ten.

在做任何轻率或仓促的事情之前，花一点时间使自己冷静下来，尤其是在生气时。一般使用时都有命令的口气，它可以但不一定意味着字面上的数到十。

类似于中文说做什么有风险的事情之前要三思，并不是真的要去思考三次，就是指要认真思考，反复思考再做决定。

这里的take ten其实是“休息一下”的意思

和它类似的还有take five

If someone tells you to take five or to take ten, they are telling you to have a five- or ten-minute break from what you are doing.

如果有人和你说take five或take ten，他们的意思就是告诉你从正在做的事情中间休息5或者10分钟。

The players took ten during the long rehearsal.

At sixes and sevens是固定短语，意思是“乱七八糟”、“一团糟”。At sixes and sevens最早出现在14世纪，指的是压上自己所有的财富玩丢骰子的游戏，目标是投出六或七，风险相当高(游戏名称已经失传因此也不清楚为啥骰子还能投出7);直到17世纪中期，词组的意思发生了变化，多指处于一种很混乱的状态。

例：

The kitchen is at sixes and sevens.

这厨房乱七八糟。

在某一个情况下，两者之间的差别几乎可以被忽略的;也就是基本一样，差不多。Six and two threes字面上看，是“一个六和两个三”，其实做一做算术，就明白一个六不就是等于两个三嘛!所以说，Six and two threes也就是半斤八两，彼此不相上下的意思。(古代一市斤等于十六两，所以半斤等于八两)

例：

We can play basketball or badminton，it’s six and two threes to me.

我们可以打篮球或羽毛球，对我来说都一样。
