Nanotyrannus is one of my very favourite dinosaurs.

矮暴龙是我非常喜欢的一种恐龙。

The name actually means pigmy tyrant.

它的名字意思其实是小暴君。

And it's pretty aptly named because this was a onemean dinosaur.

这名字挺恰当，因为这种恐龙绝非易于之辈。

A Nanotyrannus sized Tyrannosaur would in myopinion be one of the most fearsome creatures thatever lived,

矮暴龙大小的霸王龙在我看来会是有史以来最可怕的动物之一，

because it combines the firepower of T-Rex on a smaller scale with a great speed ability.

因为这结合了霸王龙的火力，而体型较小就会有更快的速度。

Nanotyrannus wasn't just one mean dinosaur, it's also one of the most controversial.

矮暴龙不仅不是易于之辈，它也是最具争议的恐龙之一。

It was originally named after a prehistoric skull found in Montana in 1942.

最早是根据1942年在蒙大拿发现的一个史前头骨命名的。

Since then, experts have differed over whether Nanotyrannus is its own species or just ajuvenile T-Rex.

从那时起专家们对矮暴龙是独立物种还是幼年霸王龙有着不同意见。

One of the very difficult things in all of dinosaur paleontology, just because that the animals areso rare, is to be able to understand this thing.

这是恐龙古生物学中很困难的事情之一，因为这些动物鲜被发现，要想能够真正了解并不容易。

I mean, is this a new species or is this just a juvenile of the species we already have?

这到底是一个新的物种还是我们已知的物种的幼年状态?

Those who believe Nanotyrannus is its own species cite key differences between it and T-Rex.

One is tooth design.

Well, one of the remarkable differences between Nano T and a full blown adult T-Rex is thestructure of the teeth.

在矮暴龙和猛力的成年霸王龙之间一个最显著的区别就是其牙齿的结构。

Tyrannosaurus Rex has these large, we sometimes call them, banana teeth.

霸王龙的牙齿很大，我们有时候把它们叫做香蕉牙。

And they're certainly sharp, and pointy, and have serrated edges, but they're not really thin,like the blade of a knife.

它们当然很锋利尖锐，边缘还有锯齿，不过并不薄，不像刀刃那样。

Rather they're more expanded like a banana.

它们更加宽大，像是香蕉。

Whereas a Nano T what we see are teeth that are indeed much more knifelike.

然而我们看到矮暴龙的牙齿其实更像刀刃。

They're much flatter, a little bit more sharply turned back or recurved, the kinds of teeth wesee in other kinds of predatory dinosaurs.

它们更平，向后的回弯要更急一些，是我们在别的掠食恐龙那里见到的那类牙齿。

This suggests that while a T-Rex would crush bone, Nanotyranus would tear through flesh in aslicing action.

这表明霸王龙会咬碎骨头，而矮暴龙则会用划切动作割下血肉。

There's up to 17 teeth in this part of the upper jaw in Nanotyrannus and there's only 12 or 13in Tyrannosaurus Rex.

矮暴龙上颚的这部分有多达十七颗牙齿，而雷克斯暴龙只有十二到十三颗。

Well, that suggests to me that these are different species of animals.

这在我来看说明它们是不同物种。

And that these species are in fact valid.

But other paleontologists, conclude something different.
