远望3号船是我国自主设计和建造的第二代航天测控船，主要担负对火箭高中低轨卫星和飞船及空间站等目标的海上测控通信任务，20多年来60余次出海远航，圆满完成了以神舟、嫦娥、北斗任务为代表的100余次海上测控任务，测控成功率达百分之百。
2021年年初以来，远望3号船已累计出航120余天，圆满完成了以神舟十四号载人飞行任务为代表的4次海上测控任务，安全航行33000余海里。
