第八章 动词的非谓语形式 过去分词作定语

　　1.过去分词作定语的时候也很多，有时单独一个词放在所修饰的词前面(a)，引起的短语放在所修饰的词后面(b)：

　　a. I passed the written test.

　　我的笔试通过了。

　　She bought a pound of ground beef.

　　她买了一磅牛肉末。

　　Two barbecued chickens，Please.

　　请给我两只烤鸡。

　　How much is the imported cheese?

　　进口奶酪怎么卖?

　　Estimated time of arrival is 11:30am.

　　预定到达时间是上午1l点半。

　　She is one of the most qualified candidates.

　　她是最合格的候选人之一。

　　b. Is there anything planned for tonight?

　　今晚有什么活动?

　　They're problems left over by history.

　　这些是历史遗留下来的问题。

　　What's the language spoken there?

　　那里讲的是什么语言?

　　This is something unheard of in history.

　　这是史无前例的事。

　　What did you think of the play put on by Class Two?

　　二班演的剧你觉得怎样?

　　A woman dressed in blue came into the room.

　　一个穿蓝衣服的女子走进屋来。

　　有时单独的过去分词也可放在修饰的词后面作后置定语：

　　We still have some bread left.

　　我们还剩一些面包。

　　Do you know the number of books ordered?

　　你知道不知道订购了多少书?

　　2.过去分词还可构成合成词作定语：

　　a simply-furnished room

　　一间陈设简单的房间

　　a clear-cut answer

　　明确的答复

　　heartfelt thanks

　　衷心的感谢

　　a well-known musician

　　著名的音乐家

　　3.过去分词有时插在句子中间，作用接近同位语：

　　New York City，(which was) founded in 1653，is an old city.

　　1653年建成的纽约市是座古老的城市。

　　The book，written in 1957，tells of the struggle of miners.

　　这本书是1957年写的，讲的是矿工的斗争。
