　　1. below:

　　l)在……下面：

　　The lake is 400 metres below sea level.

　　湖面在海平面下400 米处。

　　Water was found ten feet below the surface.

　　在地面下十英尺处找到了水。

　　The temperature is 15℃ below zero.

　　气温是摄氏零下十五度。

　　2)比……低，不到：

　　He was below her in intelligence.

　　他的智力比她低。

　　He can't be much below sixty.

　　他离六十(岁)不会很远。

　　The cost is below ￡20.

　　花费还不到20 镑。

　　2. beside:

　　l)在……旁边：

　　Put the teapot beside the milk jug.

　　把茶壶放在牛奶罐旁边。

　　There's room beside me.

　　我旁边还有空。

　　She drew up a chair beside the bed.

　　她把一张椅子拉到床边。

　　2)和……相比：

　　You are small beside your brother.

　　和你哥哥相比你个麒是小的。

　　My work is poor beside yours.

　　我的瓢品和你的相比就太差了。

　　I felt so weak and useless beside them.

　　和他们相比我感到自己脆弱无用。

　　3)用于某些成语：

　　He was beside himself with joy.

　　他高兴得不得了。
