The World Food Programme warned today that extreme weather will lead to new record levels of hunger in Somalia. It comes after the country suffered its longest drought on record and people were already suffering from extreme food shortages. The recent deadly floods across the country have made matters worse.

After two years of drought, Somalia is on the brink of famine. Even with the end of this drought, Somali families still face hardship and little improvement. Nearly half a million people have been forced from their homes and attempts to rebuild their livelihoods after a drought have come to naught with the sudden onset of what could be the worst flooding in decades.
