Washington (AFP) - A chemical cargo ship attacked off the coast of India on December 23 was attacked by "a one-way attack drone launched from Iran," the Pentagon said in a statement.

The U.S. military is "still in communication with the ship as it continues to sail to a destination in India," the statement said.

The Pentagon statement said the ship flew the Liberian flag and was operated by a Dutch entity.
