Chen Binhua with the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office said the results reveal that the Democratic Progressive Party cannot represent the mainstream public opinion on the island.

国务院台湾事务办公室陈斌华表示，结果显示民进党不能代表岛内主流民意。

He said the mainland will work with related political parties, groups and people from various sectors in Taiwan to boost cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation.

他说，大陆将与台湾有关政党、团体和各界人士共同努力，促进两岸交流与合作。

Meanwhile, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said whatever changes take place in Taiwan, the basic fact that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China will not change.

同时，中国外交部发言人表示，无论台湾发生什么变化，世界上只有一个中国、台湾是中国一部分的基本事实不会改变。

The spokesperson also said the international community's prevailing consensus on upholding the one-China principle and the long-standing adherence to this principle will not change.

发言人还表示，国际社会坚持一个中国原则的普遍共识和长期坚持这一原则不会改变。
