Feifei: 我们的微博粉丝bokong20 想知道用英语怎么说“关注、转发和热门话题”等社交网站常用的词汇。So Neil, the question is about commonly used words and sayings on social networking sites.

Neil: Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter are becoming more and more popular around the world.

Feifei: 像脸书和推特这种社交网站social networking sites 现在在全球流行非常的广泛。Facebook is like 开心网、人人网in China; Twitter is like 微博。

Neil: It was on these sites that some of the new internet words came into currency. In order to answer today's question, let's start by explaining some of the basic language used on social networking sites. First, you need to set up and account and create a username.

Feifei: 首先需要注册一个账号set up an account, 然后选一个用户名username.

Neil: You can then edit your profile, for example upload a picture of yourself, edit your location, share your contact information, write a quick biography and so on. This is common on Facebook.

Feifei: 那么在你上传了自己的头像后，修改了自己的所在地，添加了你的联系方式和一个简短的自我介绍后你就可以开始和大家分享你的快乐生活啦! There are many ways of sharing things on microblogs, like Twitter, you can simply send a tweet or an update 发布一条微博或是最新动态。

Neil: You can follow your friends and celebrities.

Feifei: 你可以关注你的朋友或喜爱的名人。关注follow; 粉丝follower.

Neil: When you get the hang of the basics, you can then interact with the people you follow and your followers by replying, sharing or retweeting.

Feifei: Reply 回复，分享share, 转发retweet. Can we say 'repost'?

Neil: Yes, you can. Retweet and repost mean the same thing, retweet is used on Twitter. You can also like or comment others' tweets or status updates.

Feifei: 你还可以like 赞或是comment 评论好友的微博或是动态。

Neil： You can @username in your tweet or update.

Feifei: 你在微博或动态中想提到你的朋友，在英语已我们说@username 提到某人。

Neil: If you wish to participate in the discussion of a current trend, you can hashtag# the trend and then write your opinion.

Feifei: Bokong20 注意了，你提到的“热门话题”在英文微博网站里的说法是trend.加入trend 的讨论方式和中文微博的一样hashtag# + 热门话题。What if I want to speak to my friends privately?

Neil: You can send them a direct message.

Feifei: 我们常说的私信原来就是direct message. So many new terms Neil, can we have a recap?

Neil: We certainly can. Microblog.

Feifei: 微博。

Neil: A tweet or an update.

Feifei: 一条微博或最新动态。

Neil: Follow and follower.

Feifei: 关注follow; follower 粉丝。

Neil: Reply, share and retweet or repost.

Feifei: 回复reply, 分享share, 转发retweet 或是repost.
