25.4.1　并列句中的省略

1) 并列句中，如果后面分句有词和前面分句的词相同，有时可以省略，以避免重复：

Some of them were injured, but most of them weren't. 他们中有些人受伤了，但大部分人没受伤。

She could have applied for that job, but she didn't. 她本可申请那份工作，但她没有。

One soldier was killed and two others wounded. 有一个士兵被打死，另外两个受了伤。

I work in a factory and my sister on a farm. 我在工厂工作，我妹妹在农场工作。

Tom majors in history and I in computer science. 汤姆学历史，我则学电脑。

My office is on the ground floor and hers on the 5th. 我的办公室在一楼，她的在五楼。

The scenery was beautiful, and the acting superb. 布景很漂亮，表演很出色。

She can't speak French and I can't either. 她不会讲法语，我也不会。

I didn't see it and nor did Marry. 我没看见，玛丽也没看见。

2) 有时并列连词可引导一个短语，也可说有词省略：

You must stop, and (stop) at once, this sort of behavior. 你必须停止这种行为，而且是马上停止。

They tried to save her, but in vain. 他们试图救活她，但没成功。

I won't stop, not until I've achieved my ambition. 我不会停止，直到我实现自己的理想。

She wouldn't go home, not even when I had asked twice. 她不肯回家，甚至我劝了她两次仍不肯回去。
