United States has suffered more coronavirus related deaths than any other countries since the pandemic began in December. It has surpassed Italy to record about 20.000 deaths in total. Andrew Cuomo, the governor of the worst affected state of New York said the death rate there was stabilizing but at horrific level.

The German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has said the country is at a crossroad that will shape its future after the coronavirus crisis. In a televised address, Mr. Steinmeier said that the society would change after the emergency was over.

A spokesman for the British prime minister says Boris Johnson has told friends he owes his life to the doctors and nurses, who have been treating him for Covid-19. Mr. Johnson was admitted to hospital in London last Sunday and spent three days in the intensive care unit.

Students at a Japanese school have gone on strike to force local officials to shut their campus as the country experiences a surge in coronavirus cases. About 1/3 of the final year at the high school in Ibaraki Prefectural have been staying at home.
