LECTURE 94 基本动词 HAVE 15

词组讲解

1. have one's work cut out **有艰巨的任务

解 习语;词义溯源:使[工作(work)] 安排给某人[使其准备(cut out for)];one's work is cut out 表示“准备好某人的任务”

例 While campaigner A can rely on a large reserve of good will from the people of eastern Mississippi, unless he can match campaigner B's campaign offers, he'll have his work cut out for him.

2. have other fish to fry **有更重要的事做

解 习语;词义溯源:拥有[更重要的事情、另一件要事(other fish to fry)];这里的other可以替换为bigger,better,more important等

例 While many other professors would jump at the chance to be the head of their department, biology professor Mary Scarton turned down an offer to head Christian University's biology school. “I have other fish to fry right now,” she was quoted as saying in her letter to the academic dean. “I'm in the middle of my research on aphids and don't want to be interrupted. ”

3. have pull with sb. *有关系;有影响力

解 俚语;词义溯源:和某人有[交情、路子(pull)];本词组也可以与some,much,lots等一起使用

4. have sb. on the string **任意操控,支配

解 〈口〉习语;词义溯源:使某人[在绳子上(on the string)]
