1. put on weight ** 增加体重;变胖

例 All the children are kept in the emergency ward of the relief camp until they have overcome the diseases they arrived with and have put on enough weight to satisfy the staff that they have escaped the grips of starvation.

2. put one in one's place ** 使某人安分;挫某人的傲气;让某人摆正自己的位置
