1. turn over a new leaf ** 改过自新，重新开始

解习语；词义溯源：翻动到［新的一页（a new leaf）］

例 It's shame. Only two weeks ago he came over to my place. He had something on his mind and wanted to get it off his chest . He told me all about the way he'd been involved in several burglaries. He wanted to turn over a new leaf and asked me for help. Now he's been killed in a traffic accident. What a shame. I guess it's good he made a clean breast of it before he died. Still, it's a shame.

2. turn over in one's grave ** 死不瞑目

解习语；词义溯源：［在坟墓中（in one's grave）］也要［左右（over）］转身

例 If the founding fathers could witness the liberal interpretation of the constitution that allows every man, woman and child in America to own a gun if he wants and the rampant violence that has ensued, they'd surely turn over in their graves.

3. turn sb. or sth. down / turn down sb. or sth. *** 调低（热量、音量、水量、气压等）；拒绝（请求、劝告等）；折叠
