Chinese Singles' Day is an entertaining festival widespread among young Chinese people, to celebrate the fact that they are proud of being single. The date, November 11th (11/11), is chosen because the number "1" resembles an individual that is alone.This festival has become the largest online shopping day in the world.

2 - Who made it a holiday?

Taobao.com, a key sales platform under Alibaba Group, operator of China's biggest e-commerce platforms, launched a shopping festival on its consumer-oriented platform, Tmall.com, highlighting big discounts on Singles' Day.

阿里巴巴集团旗下的天猫和淘宝，中国最大的电商平台，发起了 “双十一” 狂欢购物节的庆祝活动。

3 - Black Friday and Cyber Monday

Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the United States (the fourth Thursday of November). Since 1952, it has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the U.S., and most major retailers open very early (and more recently during overnight hours) and offer promotional sales.

Cyber Monday is a marketing term for the Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States. The term "Cyber Monday" was created by marketing companies to persuade people to shop online.
