第七课 海鸥
Other white sea-gull, the wild sea-gull,
啊，野生的白色海鸥，
A joyful bird is he,
他是一只快乐的鸟儿，
As he lies like a cradled thing at rest
他像是怀抱着东西般休憩
In the arms of a sunny sea!
在阳光明媚的大海的怀抱中！
The little waves rock to and fro,
小波浪来回摇动，
And the white gull lies asleep,
白色的海鸥睡着了，
As the fisher's bark, with breeze and tide,
伴着渔夫的喊声，和风与潮汐，
Goes merrily over the deep.
愉快地向深处前行。
The ship, with her fair sails set, goes by,
船，张起了帆，掠过，
And her people stand to note
她的子民起身看到
How the sea-gull sits on the rocking waves,
海鸥坐在摇晃的波浪上，
As if in an anchored boat.
好像乘着一条下锚的船。
The sea is fresh, the sea is fair,
海是清新的，也是美丽的，
And the sky calm over head,
头顶的天空平静下来，
And the sea-gull lies on the deep deep sea,
海鸥躺在深海处，
Like a king in his royal bed!
如睡在王宫御床上的国王！
O the white sea-gull, the bold sea-gull,
啊，勇敢的白色海鸥，
A joyful bird is he,
他是一只快乐的鸟儿，
Throned, like a king, in calm repose,
像一位国王那样平静安详，
On the breast of the heaving sea!
在波涛汹涌的大海的怀抱中！
The waves leap up, the wild wind blows,
波浪跳跃，狂风大作，
And the gulls together crowd,
海鸥聚集在一起，
And wheel about, and madly scream
四处飞旋、疯狂地尖叫
To the deep sea roaring loud:
对深海大声地咆哮：
And let the sea roar ever so loud,
让大海吼得再大声些，
And the wind pipe ever so high,
狂风刮得那么高，
With a wilder joy the bold sea-gull
一只更快乐而勇敢的海鸥
Send the forth a wilder cry; —
发出猛烈的叫声；—
For the sea-gull he is a daring bird,
对海鸥来说，他是一只勇敢的鸟儿，
And he loves with the storm to sail;
他喜欢与风暴同行；
To ride in the strength of the billowy sea,
坐在波涛汹涌的海波之上，
And to breast the driving gale!
在飓风中飞驰！
The little boat she is tossed about
她那颠簸的小船
Like a sea-weed, to and fro;
像海苔一样，来来回回；
The tall ship reels like a drunken man,
高大的船轴像个醉酒的人，
As the gusty tempests blow;
突然刮起的风暴猛击着；
But the sea-gull laughs at the fear of man,
而海鸥却在嘲笑人的恐惧，
And sails, in a wild delight,
在狂喜中掠过，
On the torn-up breast of the night-black sea,
在那漆黑的碎裂的海面上，
Like a foam-cloud, calm and white.
像一朵泡沫之云，宁静而洁白。
