440　look和seem

1　look 用作不及物动词，常同at 搭配，表示“看，瞧”。

Look at the stars. 瞧那些星星。

She looked at the children play with toys. 她看着孩子们玩玩具。（play前不可用to, 为look at sb. do sth. 结构 ）

What are you looking at ? （正）你在看什么 ?

What are you looking ? （误）

2　look 用作连系动词，后跟形容词或名词作表语，表示“看上去，看起来”，在这层意义上不用于进行时，后面也不用副词。look 强调通过视觉来看，而seem 则表示根据某种判断而得出的印象或看法，含有较强烈的真实性。

He looks quite strong. 他看上去很强壮。

He looks a good man. 他看上去是个好人。

The girl seems to understand quite well. 这女孩似乎理解得十分好。

He seems very sure. 他似乎很有把握。

Be what you seem . 要表里如一。

She looks happy. （正）她看上去很幸福 。

She is looking happy. （误） （不用进行时 ）

She looks happily . （误） （不用副词 ）

3　look like 表示“看起来像”，后跟名词或动名词，不可跟不定式。

She looks like her mother. （正）她看起来像她母亲 。

She looks as her mother. （误） （这层意义上不用as ）

It looks like rain .（正）看来要下雨了 。

It looks like raining . （正）

It looks like to rain . （误）

4　look 用作名词，表示“看”，常用作单数名词。

Let's have a look at the new car. 让我们看看这辆新车。

He gave her a strange look . 他用奇怪的眼光看了她一眼。

5　look around 意为“四处看看”。

She looked around , but could see nothing. 她四周张望，但什么也看不见。

6　look into 表示：①朝……内看，②调查。

They are looking into the hole. 他们在朝那个洞里看。

We'll look into the matter. 我们将调查这件事。

7　look out 意为“当心，小心（常用作祈使句，相当于be careful）”。

Look out ! There comes a bus. 当心，过来一辆公交车！

8　look over 意为“检查，仔细检查”。

I have to look over my homework. 我得把作业检查一下。

The doctor will look him over . 医生将给他检查一下。

9　look up 表示：①查（字典），②向上看。

She often looks up new words in the dictionary. 她经常在词典里查生词。

He looked up and saw a bird flying over. 他向上望，看见一只鸟飞过。

提示

“查字／词典”不可说look up the dictionary，因为dictionary是查寻的地方，不是查寻的对象，要说成look up the word/a word in the dictionary。
