Oil and gas giant Exxon Mobil has pulled out of Russia entirely after seven months of discussions over an orderly transfer of a 30 percent stake in the mega-project Sakhalin-1.

"We have made every effort to engage with the Russian government and other stakeholders," an Exxon Mobil spokesman said.
