日本计划采用夏令时来举办奥运会

Japan is considering adopting daylight saving time(DST) next year so that athletes in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games can compete in cooler hours.

日本正考虑明年采用夏令时，以便2020年东京奥运会时运动员能够在较为凉爽的时段比赛。

The proposal to bring clocks forward by two hours has received major opposition on social media with many worried it would result in longer working hours.

将时钟拨快两小时的这一提议在社交媒体上引起强烈抗议，许多人担心这一提议会导致工作时间延长。

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said such a move would have a "major" impact on people's lives.

日本内阁官房长官菅义伟称，此举将对国民生活产生“重大”影响。

"We plan broad measures such as earlier start times, more greenery and heat-inhibiting pavements," he said.

菅义伟表示：“我们计划采取更广泛的措施，例如较早的比赛时间、更多的绿化和防热路面。”

The 2020 games, which will be held in late July and early August, fall during the country's hottest and most humid months.

2020年奥运会将于该年的七月末、八月初举行，而那恰恰是日本最热、最潮湿的月份。

Olympic officials had earlier requested Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to adopt DST so that events like the marathon could be scheduled in the cooler morning hours.

东京奥组委官员此前曾请求日本首相安倍晋三采用夏令时，这样就可将马拉松等项目安排在较为凉爽的早间进行。

The government says it is yet to decide on the move but does want to limit the effect of summer heat on the athletes.

日本政府称尚未决定是否采用夏令时，但是确实希望可以降低暑热对运动员的影响。
