China's population will stay above 1.4 billion "for a certain period in future," said Ning Jizhe, head of the National Bureau of Statistics, at a press conference on Tuesday.
国家统计局局长宁吉喆在5月11日举行的新闻发布会上表示，预计在未来一段时间内我国人口总量会保持在14亿人以上。

"China's population will peak in the future, but there remains uncertainty as to when specifically it will happen," Ning said.
宁吉喆说，我国人口今后会达到峰值，但具体时间现在看还有不确定性。

Based on demographic trends in recent years, China's population growth will continue to slow down, he said.
宁吉喆表示，从近年来我国人口发展变化的趋势看，今后的人口增速将继续放缓。

He noted the growth will also be affected by factors like the age structure, people's attitudes toward having children, the government's population policies, the cost of childbearing and parenting, medical service and health conditions.
同时，人口增长还受人口年龄结构、人们的生育观念、生育政策、生育成本、公共卫生和健康水平等经济社会因素的影响。

China's population on the mainland reached 1.41178 billion, growing 0.53% annually on average in the past decade according to data from the latest national census, conducted in 2020 and released by the NBS on Tuesday. The rate was slightly lower than the average annual growth of 0.57% from 2000 to 2010, according to the NBS.
国家统计局5月11日发布的2020年第七次全国人口普查结果显示，全国人口共141178万人，过去十年间年均增长率是0.53%，比2000年到2010年的年平均增长率0.57%下降0.04个百分点。

"Data shows China's population has continued to maintain slow growth in the past decade," Ning said.
宁吉喆表示，数据表明，我国人口10年来继续保持低速增长态势。
