I have met them at close of day	黄昏时候我还见过他们，
Coming with vivid faces	一张张鲜活的脸，从
From counter or desk among grey	十八世纪的房间
Eighteenth-century houses.	桌子与柜台的后面而来。
I have passed with a nod of the head	我们擦肩而过，我点点头，
Or polite meaningless words,	或是扯上一些闲话，
Or have lingered awhile and said	或是耽搁片刻，交谈
