There is a quote that says, “Cease to struggle and you cease to live.” It means that one should never stop pursuing his goals no matter how great the difficulties he encounters are. 1 It stresses the importance of personal strivings. If one stops before setbacks, he will achieve nothing. So personal strivings are of vital importance to success. 2
Personal strivings refer to ongoing efforts made by people to achieve their goals. There have been many great figures in history, many of whom were very poor in childhood without relatives or friends to help them out. However, they relied on themselves and never bowed to any difficulty. With their personal strivings, they paved their way to success. 3 Just as the famous saying goes, “God helps those who help themselves.” 4
I don’t mean to deny the importance of resources such as money, family support, and social connections that one can leverage. 5 As family has a great influence on personal development, those who can make full use of good family resources will enjoy a better chance to succeed. However, taking advantages of family resources should be based on personal strivings. If one does not work hard himself, he would not achieve any success, no matter how better-off his family may be. 6
