We can see in the picture that the white-haired parents are feeding their adult son, who has graduated from college but refuses to work and depends on his parents to live. 1 Here, the adult son is a typical NEET. NEET is an abbreviation for Not in Employment, Education or Training, referring to the young people who are unemployed, not enrolled in school or engaged in housework, and not seeking work or the technical training needed for work but seeking security from parents. 2
In my opinion, there are two reasons behind the phenomenon. 3 For one thing 4 , with the development and popularity of higher education, the number of graduates is increasing each year and the graduates have to face great employment pressure. With the fierce competition in the job market, some of them cannot stand out and then stay at home, relying on their parents. For another 4 , some graduates are generally dissatisfied with the options and opportunities available to them.
In any case, I think there is no excuse for any young people to refuse to work and simply depend on their parents. 5 They should accept their social role as an adult in seeking full-time employment after graduation or further training.
