The 2003 Walt Disney Pictures film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was a major success, in which Depp's performance as the suave pirate Captain Jack Sparrow was highly praised. Studio bosses were more ambivalent at first, but the character became popular with the movie-going public. According to a survey taken by Fandango, Depp was a major draw for audiences.

Penelope Cruz will be playing the daughter of Johnny Depp’s nemesis in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment of the franchise. “She plays the daughter of Blackbeard,” executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer told MTV. “She’s the daughter of the bad guy. She brings a lot of humor to it. And the fact that she’s so feisty. [There will be] a little romance between [Depp's] Captain Jack and the character that Penelope plays.”

Some of his recent compositions for motion pictures are Sherlock Holmes (2009), Inception (2010), Megamind (2010), Rango (2011), and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011).

In the pre-3D era here and without the benefit of a lead-in from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which was banned for its super released, we have waited for too long...

The fourth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean series will be presented in Disney Digital 3-D and IMAX 3D, as well as in traditional two-dimensional and IMAX formats. It will be the first Pirates of the Caribbean film to be released in 3D and Jerry Bruckheimer's second 3D film, following the 2009 movie G-Force.
