　　法律通常是指由社会认可国家确认立法机关制定规范的行为规则，并由国家强制力(主要是 司法机关)保证实施的，以规定当事人权利和义务为内容的，对全体社会成员具有普遍约束力的一种特殊行为规范(社会规范)。“法律语言同其他语言一样，是我们在特定的社会文化背景下长期使用中形成的一种具有特殊用途和自身规律的语言变体。法律语篇具有独特的交际目的，这种特殊的目的通过独特的语类结构实现。语类是一种具有阶段性和目的指向性的社会过程。”(王振华，2012:49)法律文本的主要功能是规范和引导人类行为，提供信息为次要功能。因此翻译法律文本时，应该秉承准确性、精确性、一致性以及专业化的原则，使得译文语言规范化。

　　1. OTHERWISE

　　原文：The following words and phrases, wherever mentioned in this Law, shall have the meanings designated hereunder, unless otherwise indicated by context:

　　原文：Where the applicant for a patent for invention has not been granted a patent right within two years from the date of filing, it or he shall pay a fee for the maintenance of the application from the third year. The first maintenance fee shall be paid within the first month of the third year. The subsequent maintenance fees shall be paid in advance within the month before the expiration of the preceding year.
