Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has voiced optimism that a "historic" deal to establish diplomatic ties between Israel and Saudi Arabia could be "within reach."
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu stated in August that if the normalization of Israeli-Saudi relations depends on the direction of the Palestinian issue, Israel may make compromises on the Palestinian issue in order to reconcile with Saudi Arabia. Netanyahu also hinted that members of the ruling coalition would not be allowed to obstruct the agreement reached with Israel.
Due to issues such as the Palestinian issue and the conflict between the Arab world and Israel, most Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, have not normalized their relations with Israel, resulting in opposition or even hostility towards each other. In recent years, the United States has actively facilitated the normalization of relations between Israel and multiple Arab countries, but has not yet achieved reconciliation between Saudi Arabia and Israel. In August of this year, Saudi Arabia appointed a special envoy to Palestine for the first time, which analysis suggests that Saudi Arabia will continue to support the independent establishment of Palestine.
Netanyahu's comments came after he met U.S. President Joe Biden in New York on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
