The attack, blamed on terrorists, took place after a graduation ceremony of Syrian officers at the Military Academy in Homs.

The Syrian military regards this attack as an "unprecedented crime" and says it will hold the planners and perpetrators of the attack accountable and make them "pay a high price" for it. Starting from October 6th, Syria will mourn for three days nationwide, mourning the civilians and soldiers who were killed in this attack. During this period, flags were lowered at half mast throughout Syria, as well as embassies and diplomatic agencies stationed abroad.
