According to Argentina's electoral rules, any candidate who wins more than 45% of the vote in the general election, or wins more than 40% of the vote and 10 percentage points above the second place, the candidate is automatically elected president of Argentina.

With 86 percent of the vote counted, Massa has about 36.2 percent of the vote, while Millay has 30.3 percent. Both fell below the threshold to win outright, meaning they will go to a second round run-off on November 19.
