The World Health Organization said on April 2 that newborn deaths in the Gaza Strip are soaring, along with a large number of babies who are below normal weight.

Who spokeswoman Margaret Harris said many doctors have reported a large increase in the number of underweight newborns in Gaza, with many babies dying before they survive the neonatal period because of their low weight.

Harris also said that at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, at least 15 children a day are being hospitalized for malnutrition. Due to the severe damage to Gaza's medical resources during the conflict, many babies could not even be taken to hospitals.
