6.What Do Two Plus Two Equal?

A mathematician, an accountant and an economist apply for the same job. The interviewer

【1】 calls in 【2】 the mathematician and asks, "What do two plus two equal?"

The mathematician replies, "Four." The interviewer asks, "Four, exactly?" The mathematician looks at the interviewer incredulously and says, "Yes, four, exactly."

Then the interviewer calls in the accountant and asks the same question, "What do two plus two equal?" The accountant says, "On average 【3】 , four—give or take ten percent, but on average, four."

Then the interviewer calls in the economist and poses the same question, "What do two plus two equal?" The economist gets up 【4】 , locks the door, closes the shade, sits down next to the interviewer and says, "What do you want it to equal?"

2加2等于几？

一位数学家、一位会计师和一位经济学家申请同一份工作。面试官先把数学家叫进了办公室问道：“2加2等于几？”

“等于4。”数学家答道。面试官继续问：“不多不少恰好等于4吗？”数学家感到不可思议，看着面试官答道：“没错啊，就等于4。”

接着，面试官把会计师叫了进来，问了相同的问题：“2加2等于几？”

“通常等于4，但上下有10％的浮动，不过通常等于4。”

最后，面试官把经济学家叫了进来，问了相同的问题：“2加2等于几？”只见经济学家站了起来，关上门，拉上了窗帘，然后坐到面试官旁边，低声问道：“你想让它等于几？”

背景知识与点评

·数学家的特点在于逻辑精确严密，一就是一，二就是二，来不得半点马虎。

·会计师的特点就是水分大，所以国务院前总理朱镕基在2001年4月16日视察上海国家会计学院时，为该校题字“不做假账”；同年10月29日，朱镕基视察北京国家会计学院后，题字也是：“诚信为本，操守为重，遵循准则，不做假账。”

·经济学家的特点呢？就是善于溜须拍马。所以有人把某些经济学家称为“御用经济学家”，意思是领导说什么，这些经济学家就能证明什么。本人最敬佩的经济学家是保罗·克鲁格曼（Paul R Krugman, 1953—　），特立独行，不依附于任何派别。
