When this animal was left to die near the Lijiang River, the kind-hearted local people took good care of it and it recovered soon. The elephant was delighted with the place's beautiful scenery and kind people and naturally decided to stay there to help the farmers harvest their crops. As soon as the divine being heard about this, he sent his soldiers to take the elephant back. These troops and the local villagers fought against each other for three days and nights, with neither side securing a clear victory. So the divine being stealthily stabbed the elephant to death in the heart while it was drinking water near the river. From then on, the image of the elephant was left in the river.
