When a plane from London arrived at Sydneyairport, workers began to unload a number ofwooden boxes which contained clothing. No onecould account for the fact that one of the boxeswasextremely heavy. It suddenly occurred toone of the workers to open up the box. He wasastonished at what he found. A man was lying inthe box on top of a pile of woolen goods. He was sosurprised at being discovered that he did not eventry to run away. After he was arrested, the manadmitted hiding in the box before the plane left London. He had had a long anduncomfortable trip, for he had been confined to the wooden box for over eighteen hours.The man was ordered to pay $3,500 for the cost of the trip. The normal price of a ticket is$2,000!

对比定语从句和同位语从句：
1) 定语从句是对被修饰词的限定或补充说明。修饰定语从句的引导词：
关系代词:
指人：who, whom, whose, that
指物：that, which
关系副词：when, where, why
同位语从句是讲述被修饰名词的内容。同位语从句的引导词：that, what, when, where 注意：定语从句中没有what这个关系词，但what可以引导同位语从句。同位语从句举例:
The fret that the criminal was guilty was clear to everyone. (解释作用)
每个人都很清楚罪犯有罪这个事实。
Have you any evidence that she is a thief ? (解释作用)
您有证据证明他是小偷吗?
I have no idea what has happened to him. (解释作用)
我不知道到底在他身上发生了什么。
定语从句应用举例：
If he is a good doctor,who can cures himself. (修饰作用)
能给自己治病的医生就是好医生(谚语)
